MUST LOVE DOGS NW IS DEDICATED TO PREVENTING ANIMAL HOMELESSNESS

Since 2008, Must Love Dogs NW has been deeply committed to ending pet homelessness in our community. We strive to educate the public on responsible dog ownership, behavior modification, and training assistance. We work to rehome dogs that are abused, neglected, homeless or about to be homeless and those in shelter settings. We provide spay/neuter and microchip assistance to animals in need. Through our volunteer foster network we are able to provide a loving home environment where we can get to know our dogs well and fully assess their needs. Must Love Dogs NW is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation that relies 100% on the generosity of the community. Help us make a difference today.

Rescued from a Sure Death - Help Make a Difference with Second Chance Companions today!

Second Chance Companions got the call. There was a hoarding situation involving over 50 feral cats. An amazing neighbor, Barbara M, called SCC to see if we could help. Janet S, one of our volunteers, answered the call. She started the long process of trapping the cats, getting them spayed/neutered through Humane Society of Southwest Washington, then releasing them back into their community. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit and the humane society shut down. Janet’s hands were tied. There was nowhere to take them for surgery.

The phone started to ring again. Litters of kittens were being born in that community. Janet would rush to the site, but was often too late - kittens were dying...victims of birth defects, neglect, upper respiratory infections and homicidal male cats. While we were able to save several through quick medical treatments, we knew something had to be done. Four of the female cats were brought into one foster home together. One turned out to have already been spayed and was able to be re-released into the community. Two were pregnant.

In the first litter, two of the five kittens had full cleft palates and, despite our best efforts, didn’t survive. The three remaining kittens, Groot, Gamora and Drax, had to have supplemental feedings for several weeks, as well as treatment for upper respiratory infections.

When the second litter was born, mom was in labor for 3 days! But because she was safe in her foster home, three of the four babies survived and the whole family is flourishing. Peter, Parker and MJ are fat, healthy, happy babies that are growing by leaps and bounds.

Without the tireless efforts of Barbara, Janet and the cat foster team, these babies would never have survived. Because of Second Chance Companions, these precious creatures will live long, full, happy lives! Meanwhile, back in the community, Barbara has taken over the care and feeding of the entire feral colony. In Janet’s words “she is a fantastic lady who has a heart to help us and these precious ferals.”
